Faith Friesen

Faith is the prettiest of all of my nieces and nephews. I say this because everyone agrees she looks more like me than anyone in the family.

Faith was born in September 2005, the year I came back from Japan. That summer was the first time I ever got to see my sister in full pregnancy. She was beautiful! Unfortunately, by the time Faith was born, I was already living in Vanderhoof, BC, teaching an awful crew of spoiled pre-teens whose parents were... well, that doesn't matter. Bygones...

I met Faith for the first time at Christmas that year. There were 5 kids in the family by now and things were pretty busy. I hardly remember that Christmas. I do remember though, a few months later, I met up with my sister, and 6 month old Faith, in Victoria for a few days during Spring Break. We had a lovely time walking around downtown, and along the seawall at Beacon Hill Park. Faith had a headful of dark hair and looked a lot like Dora the Explorer. Faith had the opportunity to visit me in BC again about a year later. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, she and my sister came to spend a few days with me in Prince George, where I was living by then. Life was pretty crazy at that point, and I didn't end up making many happy memories during that visit. The main memory is that they were there for me, during a very difficult time in my life.

Well, Faith, lucky girl, did get to visit me in BC one more time, just a couple of years ago, when I was living on Gabriola Island. While Reg was on a skiing trip with the boys somewhere, Pauline flew out with Faith, and we had an awesome week, walking the beaches, picking seashells and looking at starfish, watching some glass blowing, painting some pictures and watching chick flicks with popcorn. We went out to Victoria and tried to recapture our trip from 8 years ago. We searched for the same spot, and managed to get an updated photo of the three of us.

Faith is a great kid, and I love every moment that I get to spend with her, whether in person, or by chatting online. I am very blessed to have such awesome nieces and nephews in my life.
